Hello,
My name is Darrell Robert Boisdorf, and I am a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Cook County. I am also running in the Chicago Marathon and raising funds for Team CASA! I hope to raise $5,000 dollars before the marathon, and look forward to raising more if possible. The truth of the matter is, there are approximately 5,800 children in foster care in Cook County alone. Cook County has the fourth largest population of youth in the foster program in the United States. The reality is, CASA's funds are so limited that we can only afford to advocate for approximately six percent of these children. When I am asked what we do as CASA's, and inform people about the process of helping our youth in care, I also ask them if they would like to join the cause. Many people say they could not bear the pain and suffering that these children go through and would not be capable of doing such a grueling task, which is completely understandable. However, this is one way many of you can help these kids live better lives, by donating to CASA of Cook County!

For over 30 years, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County has been training everyday people to stand up for children that have experienced abuse and neglect in an overwhelmed and extremely under-resourced foster care system. Today there are anywhere between 5,800 to 6,000 children in Cook County’s foster care system—and CASA of Cook County can only provide one-on-one support for less than 6 percent of them. Because of our limited resources, our volunteer advocates are court-appointed for cases deemed most in need of individual, dedicated support.
