Homeward Bound 2019: Cocktails for CASA

Join us for Homeward Bound 2019: Cocktails for CASA, a special event at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Chicago Signature Store featuring cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres, and music on Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 6 pm to 9 pm.  Proceeds benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County, a non-profit organization providing children who have experienced abuse or neglect a voice in court and a safe, permanent home. There are currently more than 5,600 child victims of abuse and/or neglect in Cook County in the protective care of the Illinois state child welfare system. These children have more challenges in terms of health, education, wellness, and other outcomes than any other single demographic group of children. Because of case complexity, restricted budgets, high caseworker turnover, and inadequate staffing there are tremendous obstacles to meeting the needs of these children and families.

CASA of Cook County works to diminish the challenges faced by children in foster care by recruiting, training and supervising community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children in court and who strive to ensure that children leave the system to live in safe, permanent homes. Unlike caseworkers and other child welfare professionals, CASA volunteers handle only one case at a time and are able to give each child the one-to-one attention he/she needs and deserves. CASA volunteers look to minimize delays in services and permanency by monitoring the case through the collection of information from all relevant parties and making recommendations that are in the best interest of children to the court. CASA is an independent entity ensuring that children have a voice in court and are able to find their way to permanency and resiliency.
